Nile cruise and Cairo

Checked October 2026

Not in the sightseeing sets the tour operator Egypt Escapes lists for its Nile sailings. It lists the Pyramids of Giza among its Cairo excursions. To see them you add Cairo to the holiday. Check whether Giza entry and the Grand Egyptian Museum are in your plan or extra.

The Cairo facts come from two pages of the tour operator Egypt Escapes. The flight limits come from AmaWaterways. All were read on 15 October 2026.

Do you see pyramids on a Nile cruise?

Not in the sightseeing sets Egypt Escapes lists for its Nile sailings. Those name stops such as Karnak, Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings. Our page on a Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan lists them.

The seller's excursions page puts the Pyramids of Giza among its Cairo trips instead. So ask whether your holiday includes Cairo at all.

For travel advice, read the FCDO's wording on our page about whether a Nile cruise is safe.

What Cairo excursions do sellers list?

Egypt Escapes lists two Cairo excursions with its Nile holidays.

The first is a half-day at the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. It comes with an Egyptologist and a lunch.

The second is a full day. It combines the Pyramids with the Grand Egyptian Museum. It's offered "by land" or "by air", as a day trip or an overnight.

The page doesn't state entrance fees. So ask whether entry is in the price for each.

How many nights should I add in Cairo?

Egypt Escapes' cruise-and-stay page shows two shapes for a Nile cruise plus Cairo.

  • A seven-night deluxe cruise with two Cairo nights and a room with a pyramid view.
  • Three Giza nights plus a Red Sea stay.

Those are one seller's examples, not recommended lengths. Pick the nights from what you want to see. Ask what each night buys.

Our page on how long a Nile cruise is shows how hotel nights change the length.

What does a Nile cruise plus Cairo look like on paper?

AmaWaterways shows another shape. Its programme starts in Cairo, and AmaWaterways' visa service treats Day 1 as arrival in Cairo, per its Egypt guidance.

Internal flights then run Cairo to Luxor and back to Cairo. AmaWaterways' internal flights in Egypt allow 23 kg checked and 8 kg carry-on.

So when you add Cairo, you may add flights. Check the baggage limit before you pack.

Is the Grand Egyptian Museum worth adding?

If it's on your list, check what the excursion gives you. The full-day trip pairs the museum with the Pyramids. The page doesn't say how long you get at each. Ask how long you have inside the museum, and how long at Giza.

Questions to ask when you add Cairo

  • How many hotel nights are in Cairo?
  • Is Giza entry included, or extra?
  • Is the Grand Egyptian Museum included, or extra?
  • Do I travel by land or by air between sites?
  • What is the baggage limit on the internal flights?
