How to book a river cruise
Checked October 2026
Send your details here and our travel team at The JLT Group takes it from there. They plan the trip with you and book it, and your booking and payment are with The JLT Group. Whether part of your trip has financial protection depends on how it is built. So ask for the certificate, and check what it lists.
This site explains river cruises, river by river. Our travel team at The JLT Group plans and books your trip. This page sets out how that works, and how to check any agent before you pay.
Who can book a river cruise with flights and transfers included from the UK?
A travel agent can, and on this site that's our travel team at The JLT Group. They plan and book the cruise, and they'll call you back, or email first if you'd rather.
Your booking and payment are with The JLT Group. This site shows no price as an offer: every quote is for your own dates.
Which lines and sailings can be booked changes over time. So ask our travel team what they can book for your river and month. Don't take any list on a website as the final word, ours included.
Ask for flights and transfers to be shown as their own lines on any quote. Then you can see what's included, and from which airport. Want hotel nights before or after the sailing? Say so early, and ask for them as separate lines too.
Which UK travel agent is best for a first river cruise?
Rather than rank them, here's how to check any agent. That includes ours.
Check whose ATOL the flights are sold under
The law asks sellers to be clear about this. Regulation 16 of the ATOL Regulations 2012 bars anyone from indicating they hold an ATOL they don't hold. That covers doing so "directly or indirectly by whatever means". It also says anyone offering flights must disclose the capacity they act in.
So look for that disclosure on the seller's site and paperwork. That's also why every page on this site names The JLT Group and its ATOL details at its foot.
Ask for the certificate
Ask for the ATOL Certificate when you book a trip with a flight. Then check what it lists against what you booked. Our page on what ATOL covers, and what it doesn't goes through it.
Ask who you're paying
Before you pay a deposit, check the name the payment goes to. It should match the business on your booking and your paperwork. If the names differ, ask why, and get the answer in writing. Your payment goes to The JLT Group.
Ask your questions before you pay
Ask about the fare, the extras, the cabin and the cancellation terms. Our list of questions to ask before booking a river cruise has the full set.
What happens after I enquire?
[The JLT Group's own booking steps go here once they confirm them, before this site launches.] Until then, this is what we can tell you.
- You send an enquiry, using the form on this page or the number beside it.
- It goes straight to our travel team at The JLT Group.
- They call you back, or email first if you'd rather, and plan the cruise with you.
It helps to have your rough month, number of nights and departure airport to hand. Mention anything that shapes the trip, such as stairs, a special date or a solo cabin.
You don't need everything decided before you enquire. A river, a rough month and a number of nights are enough to start. If you're still choosing a river, read Nile and European river cruises from the UK first.
Who is responsible if something goes wrong on my trip?
The JLT Group's booking conditions set that out. They're the terms you agree to when you book. So ask our travel team for the booking conditions before you pay, and read them first.
Look in them for what happens if the itinerary changes. Check who you contact while you're away. Look for what happens if you need to cancel, too. If anything isn't clear, ask our travel team to explain it in writing. Keep a copy with your other travel papers.
Your booking is with The JLT Group.
To start, send your river, month and number of nights through the enquiry form.
