What is a single supplement?

It's the extra charge for taking a cabin on your own. How much, and whether it applies at all, depends on the line, the sailing and the cabin.

How do lines cut the single supplement?

That line's solo offers take three shapes.

• The supplement is waived on selected 2027 Europe sailings.
• It has offered a reduced supplement on some sailings.
• Entry-level categories carry a different reduced rate.

Each comes with a booking deadline and a capacity limit. The reduction applies after other discounts. Land stays are not covered, and airfare and gratuities are extra.

So an offer is not a fixed price. It works on named sailings and cabin grades, for a limited time, while places last.

What are some good solo cruises for seniors?

Choose by the cabin and the dates, whatever your age. Ask which sailings and cabin grades the solo offer covers. Ask what happens if those places sell out.

Then add what the offer leaves out, such as airfare, land stays and gratuities. Put them on the same list as the cabin.

Are there cabins built for one person?

On select ships, yes. Some of the line's ships have a few single-occupancy staterooms. Each has a French balcony and measures 140 sq ft.

"Limited" matters here. Only select ships have them, and only a few. Ask early whether the ship you're looking at has any. Our page on river cruise cabins covers how to ask about the cabin itself.

Will I be on my own at dinner?
